Golfing

Steven is grooming John to become the next greatest golfer.
Or at least to teach him to golf so Steven will have a permanent partner.
We got the Wii remote accessories for John.
Again, this is what happens when you're poor as a child....you end up buying too much for your child.
Amazingly, he's got a great swing. And he's catching on really quickly.

Getting in training for avoiding the paparazzi.

The Dentist

Steven had a dentist appointment a couple weeks ago so we scheduled John for his first visit. He was a bit hesitant at first, we hung out in the corner and watched Steven get his teeth cleaned. Then they tried to get John in for an x-ray. Nope. Not gonna happen.

So we went back and watched Steven.

And then they decided to bribe John with a toothbrush. He was all over the Diego toothbrush. He had to stand up for the x-ray and this thing came down over his head. I thought for sure that he'd freak out but he was a trooper. He stood completely still until it was over. I was amazed. Then back to the room for a check-up.

Amazing, right?

John amazes me all the time.

FYI: there's a TV in the ceiling.

How awesome is he?

Both patients were outstanding.

BUT only John got a toothbrush! Hahah. They totally forgot about Steven.

Wednesday Weigh-In

Since last Wednesday, I have:
  • lost weight (this one was a surprise)
  • lost inches (my clothes are fitting so much better. It's like having an entirely new wardrobe! I can finally wear some of my old clothes)
  • exercised 5 days
  • not drank all my water
  • snacked to EXCESS but I blame the Easter candy
  • not eaten that well and I completely blame the end of Lent (Hello Cheese, how I have missed you)
It's been a good week. I am on Week 9, Session 1 of my Learn to Run program. Last night I was on the treadmill for 68 minutes. Run 10 min, Walk 1 min, Run 15 min, Walk 1 min, Run 20 min, Walk 1 min, Run 10 min, Walk 1 min with a Warm Up and Cool Down. I wasn't break down exhausted at the end, I felt good. My legs were a bit heavy but not sore. And today, while I can feel a tiredness in my legs, it was good. I was still able to do my Sculpt workout and not collapse in pain.

I am feeling so good.

In other news, (just so you don't think it's all sunshine and daisies coming out of my ass) I think I may be going bald. I am not feeling so good about this. Let's just say, I am glad my hair is so freaking long that you don't notice the bald spot. Which btw is on the side of my head. What is up with that? Personally I think the spot is growing but I dont' have any proof. I'm not even sure how long the bald spot has been there.

Wednesday Weigh-In

Since last Wednesday, I have:

  • exercised 5 times

  • brought my lunch 4 times

  • drank my water

  • reduced the soda intake

  • eaten too many snacks

  • not lost weight

  • not gained weight

I need to journal every day. I need to be diligent in recording what I eat every day. I've been slacking off a bit too much.

Helping Dad

John is definitely exposed to much different things with Steven at home as opposed to being at home with me.

Remember the little red mechanic stool, I'll talk about it later.

Look at him. Camo hat. Safety glasses.

I'm not actually sure why they're working on the car. I know that they were cleaning the headlights but I think they were doing a couple of other mechanical-type stuff too.

So, Steven was sitting on the red stool and one of the wheels fell off. In all the wisdom of a child, John looked at him and stated "You too heavy, daddy. You too heavy."

The Bike

John got a bike for Christmas from Brenda, Dwight and McKenzie. Up until a couple days ago, he was not aware that there was anything in the box. At Christmas time he used the box as a table and then Steven & I decided to store it in the basement until the weather was nicer. Originally we were going to take it out of the box but then Steven said that it would be cruel to put the bike together and then tell him that he couldn't ride it in the house.

The weather was finally nice. Remember those couple days?

There's nothing John & Steven like better than using tools and building stuff.

Bet you didn't know that this lawn chair used to be mine. (and most likely Cindy and Dawna) Man, they sure don't build stuff to last like they used to.

In my absence, John is reading the directions. Sad considering that he can't read.

Safety glasses. Can't be too safe.

Now where oh where does this wheel go?

I am building this bike and dad is helping me.

I am building this bike by myself.

A Two-Wheeler!
John needs to practice the art of pedaling.
I'm hoping that little kid down the street starts riding his bike so John can see how to do it.

Doesn't this make you cry?
He's so cute.
He's growing up so fast.

Puppet Show

I am forever trying to compensate for the fact that I am gone all day. Could you imagine the shit I would subject myself to if we had John in daycare? Good God!

Anyhoo.

I don't know if you have the same problem but I am constantly losing socks in the laundry. As a result, I have a basket full of single socks. Periodically I drag the basket out and match socks while watching TV. Then I had a wonderful idea.

A crafty wonderful idea.

Sock Puppets!
OMG, they even have curly hair. Don't you love them?
And then, we had a puppet show for dad.
Elmo and Teddy Bear (not seen) joined us on stage.

Sadly, John is a bit too short for this puppet theatre.
TaDa!
Too short :(
Next up, we'll build our own puppet theatre.
He has so much fun.

Don't get me wrong, there's lots of nights when we sit around and watch TV. I just don't blog about those nights.

I could if you want me to be more real. Like tonight. After dinner John & I ate smarties in the living room and watched "Just For Laughs" with Steven. And then John played an Elmo game on my laptop while Steven laid on the couch watching TV and I read a book.

See, not always crafts and fun at our house.

Oh yeah, and after I put John to bed, I came downstairs, laid on the couch and fell asleep until Steven scared the crap out of me when he yelled at something on TV.

Laugh a minute, aren't we?

Wednesday Weigh-In

First off, I'm a liar...but in a good way.

I actually did lose weight last week, I marked down the wrong weight on my spreadsheet but when I was looking at my notebook last night I noticed that the numbers weren't adding up correctly.

So there. Last week wasn't as bad as I thought!

Since last Wednesday I have:
  • lost weight
  • lost inches
  • exercised 6 times
  • brought my lunch 3/4 days
  • drank my water
  • reduced my soda intake
  • reduced my coffee intake
  • made healthier snack choices

And the I'm back on track with running. I am most proud of this.

I was able to wear a smaller size jeans on the weekend. (Yipee for me!)

I was able to wear a dress shirt that was too tight across...well, too tight everywhere when I tried to wear it in December.

My underwear fits better. (too much?)

Overheard

Riley has been having the poops lately. It's been alot of getting up in the middle of the night, letting him out, trying to stay awake long enough to let him back in the house, check out his butt, wipe his butt and then crawl back into bed.

And it's not only once per night. For example, the other night he got up 6 times between 12:45 am and 4:30am. It is wiping me out.

Oh yeah. Riley used to wake me up. He used to walk around to my side of the bed and head butt me when he needed to be let out in the middle of the night. However, now he simply gets up and walks around the kitchen. So I need to be alert to "click, click, click" of his nails on the lino.

This is really necessary information for the "overheard".

At dinner, Steven picks up some broccoli and gives it to Riley.

Me: I can't believe you're doing that.
Steven: shrugs his shoulders
Me: Listen, if Riley wakes up tonight. I am kicking you in the nuts every time I have to wake up.
John: KICKING YOU IN THE NUTS
Me: in my head fuckfuckfuckfuckfuck
Steven: glaring at me
John: KICKING YOU IN THE NUTS

nice, huh?

Wednesday Weigh-In

Since last Wednesday, I have:
  • not lost any weight, well not really.
  • I actually lost and then gained the same 2 pounds
  • bought my lunch too many times
  • been sick
  • had a dentist appointment (yuk)
  • exercised 5 times!

I really haven't been feeling well this past week. My dentist appointment on Monday was for the permanent crown. Holy crap, it hurts. Okay, maybe not hurt but it's sore. So very sore. And sensitive. I can't have cold water touch the tooth. Is this normal? Dawna? Is it?

The return to running has been pretty slow. It's totally mental, I'm not sure how to make the jump back.

Jungle Gym

I took a day off a couple weeks ago. John always asks me "you stay home"? And I finally was able to tell him "yes, I am staying home". It was a wonderful feeling.

We went to the Jungle Gym.

He had so much fun playing on the equipment and with the other kids.

We played for a couple hours and then had a lunch date.

Great day.

Snow

We've been reading a book. "Snow" by Roy McKie and P.D. Eastman. this used to be my own book when I was growing up. And knowing my mom, it was probably both Cindy and Dawna's book.

Snow!
Snow! Snow! Come out in the snow.
Snow! Snow! Just look at the snow! Come out! Come out! Come out in the snow.

Anyway, in part of the book, they build a snow fort. Guess what we did today.

I never imagined that snowfort building would be so exerting. Holy smokes.
It was such a beautiful day. And the snow was incredible.

Look how tall we made the fort. It's a perfect John-sized fort. But it's like a Where's Waldo picture. Where's Steven?
Do you see him?

Notice the flag?
The things that we make Riley do.
I'm the king of the castle.
Welcome to the World of John.

It was such a wonderful day.
